Diamond stuff

I bet Pearl gets bored as fuck just standing motionless all day beside a giant man's throne, Red Diamond sleeps 80% the day away. When his Pearl has to wake him up, his usual excuse is "I wasn't sleeping, I was just resting my eyes." 

Anyway, I kinda wanna talk about Red Diamond, a bit. He has a kinda sad backstory. Red Diamond is "defective", I guess you could say. How these minor, less powerful Diamonds work in this lore is that they're created and assigned for different clusters of colonies that the more powerful, well-known Diamond don't want/don't have time to manage on their own. These Diamonds come in Yellow, Blue, and Pink.

Well, the thing is is that it was known that something was up with the Pink Diamond Kindergarten, all the Pinks came out wrong, so to speak. Red Diamond was supposed to be a Pink Diamond, but he was overcooked and turned red. There's two other pinks that I'm gonna bring up soon, one with a second set of eyes, and people mistake him for a fusion. The other one completely missing and arm and she's really really skinny.

The minor Pink Diamonds were discontinued out of respect for actual Pink Diamond, so no more Red Diamonds can possibly pop out. He was the first one AND the last one :v 

Since Red Diamond was seen as a defect, he, along with the other Pinks were kinda alienated from the rest. Red Diamond got it the worst because he was something entirely new, and the Diamonds of high standing didn't want this defective, off-colour Diamond, so they hid him from the public eye, for the most part, and just pushed him aside. Later just ended up shipping him off to the colonies he's in charge of, and a massive portion of Gem-kind does not know a Red Diamond exists, even.

For this, Red Diamond gladly excepts defective, off-colour, or otherwise useless gems because he knows what it's like to feel like you're just not good enough. The handful of gems that are under his control see him as this compassionate, empathetic, incredible ruler, but he can't really see that because he can't seem to earn the respect of his fellow Diamonds. It takes a lot of strength to accept you're just not like everyone else and there's nothing you can do about it. Despite the fact the Red Diamond is kind of an emotional sandbag, he's a strong-willed gem who doesn't break down in front of anyone, not even his own Pearl. He doesn't like it when anyone sees him in a vulnerable state, and him holding back how he feels can really take it's toll on him.

Yeah, Red Diamond is a character I really like talking about because I think it's safe to say we all have a part of him inside us somewhere, I know I certainly do. Just whether it be not being like everyone else, or just not feeling good enough, or even being compassionate to others who are going through the same things you have, I think most of us could relate in one way or another. I guess that's just the beauty of creating characters, they can become so much more than just a drawing on a piece of paper. You can tell i think about this shit waaaaaaaaay too much :U
